Shaping Global Pathways Through Education and Opportunity
For more than three decades, Dr. Mariam Shaikh has worked at the intersection of education, opportunity, and global mobility. Her career has not followed a single track. Instead, it has evolved with the needs of students, institutions, and industries, allowing her to build a perspective that goes far beyond traditional education consulting.
She began her journey in the 1980s with a modest but meaningful step. In Ras Al Khaimah, she founded a nursery that welcomed children from different cultural backgrounds. Though simple, it introduced her to something that would define her work for years to come: education is never just about academics; it is about direction, confidence, and exposure.
Over time, that understanding shaped her path. She went on to take on leadership roles at institutions such as Heriot-Watt University, Canadian University of Dubai, and Amity University. In each role, she focused on more than enrolment numbers. She worked on strengthening student engagement, building international partnerships, and creating systems that made global education more accessible.
One of the defining moments in her career came with her involvement in establishing the Dubai campus of the University of New Brunswick. It was not just an institutional milestone. It created a direct academic bridge between Canada and the UAE, giving students access to international education without leaving the region. This ability to connect systems across borders has remained a constant in her work.
She later worked with several other prestigious universities in Dubai, including Canadian University Dubai, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, Amity University Dubai, the University of Guelph, and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). In these roles, she focused on student recruitment, forming meaningful collaborations, and helping institutions expand their reach and attract learners from around the world.
Today, as the Founder and CEO of MS Education Consultants, Dr. Mariam works closely with students and professionals at different stages of their journey. Her approach is practical and personal. She looks at where someone stands, where they want to go, and which path makes the most sense for them. University placements, scholarships, and career direction are all part of that process, but the focus is always on long-term outcomes rather than short-term decisions.
Her work has also evolved in response to changes in education. Through initiatives such as Georgian Global, she is contributing to professional development in areas that are shaping the future of work, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, healthcare, and hospitality. By connecting education with industry needs, she is helping individuals build skills that remain relevant beyond the classroom.
Alongside her professional work, Dr. Mariam has remained closely involved in community initiatives. She has supported refugee students in accessing higher education and has worked with organizations such as UNHCR to help individuals rebuild their futures through learning. She also mentors women who are stepping into leadership or building their own ventures, offering guidance that is both practical and experience-driven.
What stands out in her journey is consistency. The roles have changed, the scale has grown, but the intent has remained the same: to create access, to guide people toward the right opportunities, and to make education a tool that genuinely changes outcomes.
Dr. Mariam Shaikh continues to build on that work today, shaping pathways that connect education to real possibilities across borders.
