Anne Petraro

Empowering Better Systems for Better Lives

A strong voice when it comes to mental healthcare and personal growth, Anne Petraro is among the few leaders in this space who are driving meaningful change in the lives of those around her. As a seasoned mental health professional, she brings over two decades of expertise in trauma-informed care, program development, consulting, and education. Working across healthcare facilities, schools, community programs, and beyond, she has consistently demonstrated a leadership approach that is both practical and deeply human.

With a career that began in 1999, Anne’s work has evolved beyond traditional therapy into a broader systems-based approach. She believes that people cannot be understood in isolation, but within the systems they are part of, including families, schools, organizations, and communities. This perspective shapes her work and allows her to address challenges at their root rather than at the surface level.

Anne has worked with a wide range of populations, including individuals navigating trauma, addiction, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and involvement with the criminal justice system. Her approach focuses on understanding the full context of a person’s life, rather than reducing individuals to diagnoses or labels. She also emphasizes the connection between mental and physical well-being, highlighting the role of environment, lifestyle, and daily structure in long-term health.

A proficient writer, Anne is the author of Therapized, a book that reflects her clinical experience, knowledge of the field, and authentic voice. The book is grounded in her belief that individuals should not be defined by diagnoses but understood through their experiences, environments, and personal stories. She also regularly shares insights on trauma-informed care, family systems, and personal growth, making her work accessible to a wider audience.

Her strong academic foundation, including a Doctorate in Mental Health Counseling, along with advanced clinical training and degrees in therapeutic modalities, neuropsychology, and brain health, supports her depth of knowledge and practical application in the field. She is also known for mentoring and educating counseling students and therapists, helping shape the next generation of mental health professionals.

She is currently expanding her work through advanced study in functional medicine and psychology, integrating a whole-systems approach that addresses the biological, neurological, and psychological roots of well-being across both individuals and the systems they live within.

As the Founder and CEO of Petraro Consulting, Anne works with organizations to develop programs, strengthen internal systems, and support professionals operating in high-stress environments. Her work focuses on helping organizations function more effectively by improving communication, structure, and staff support to create healthier environments for both individuals and teams.

With experience across diverse mental healthcare settings, Anne continues to highlight the importance of addressing both individual and systemic challenges. In an industry often impacted by limited access and burnout, her work is focused on improving how mental health is understood, supported, and delivered.

Even leaders like Anne are shaped by the family that supports and contributes to their work. Her son, Joseph, is the founder of Joe’s Be Kind Campaign, which includes Sports4All, Joe’s Wells for Humanity, and Adopt-A-Grandparent—initiatives focused on kindness, inclusion, and community impact. Through his work, he has been actively creating positive change from a young age.

Dedicated to challenging traditional stigma and misconceptions around mental health, Anne Petraro continues to create impact through her work, one step at a time, by helping individuals and systems move toward healthier, more sustainable ways of functioning.
