Aviation Safety and Excellence from Aisha Jibreel Alexander’s Lens

A multifaceted expert, Aisha Jibreel Alexander is an international airline pilot, aviation safety leader, author, and researcher. With a career spanning over two decades, she has led over 12,000 flight hours across six continents. Throughout her career, Aisha has been bridging the gap between operational excellence and aviation safety in the global aviation sector. 

Originally from Medellín, Colombia, Aisha began her aviation career in corporate aviation, flying high-profile charter operations for distinguished clients. With operations for personalities including former U.S. First Lady Hillary Clinton to missions associated with Governor Mitt Romney, each of these early experiences helped her gain exposure to what leadership in this field looks like. 

Later transitioning to international airline operations, Aisha flew for several major carriers, including Ethiopian Airlines and Etihad Airways, before being appointed Director of Aviation Safety for the Coca-Cola Aviation Department, where she led the development and implementation of corporate aviation safety programs and operational risk management initiatives.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she returned to airline operations, joining Kalitta Air, where she currently serves as a Boeing 777 pilot while completing her Captain upgrade. Her operational experience spans North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and Africa, encompassing long-haul international passenger and cargo operations, humanitarian missions, and critical global logistics flights.

Her academic background reflects the same commitment to safety that has defined her flying career. She holds a Master of Science in Aviation Safety from Emirates Aviation University in collaboration with Coventry University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Factors at Coventry University. Her doctoral research focuses on developing an enhanced human factors framework that builds upon James Reason’s Swiss Cheese Model, placing greater emphasis on the identification, management, and mitigation of human error and organizational risk. Through this work, Aisha aims to advance pilot performance, decision-making, organizational resilience, and safety culture, contributing to the evolution of aviation safety management for the next generation of commercial aviation.

Recognized internationally for her contributions to aviation safety and leadership, Aisha was appointed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as Secretary of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Regional Aviation Safety Team (NACC RAST), a distinction that reflects her expertise and reputation within the global aviation community. A keynote speaker, she has also been invited to speak at some of the leading global conferences of the industry. Parallel to these roles, she even serves as the Member of the Royal Society of UK. 

Beyond the flight deck, Aisha is a passionate advocate for mentoring the next generation of aviation professionals, particularly women pursuing careers in aerospace. She believes that technical excellence must always be accompanied by humility, continuous learning, resilience, and integrity.

She is also the author of “From Ashes: The Ascent to Save Icarus,” a memoir that chronicles her personal and professional journey through adversity, resilience, and transformation. More than an autobiography, the book explores the human side of aviation, illustrating how perseverance, faith, and purpose can transform life’s greatest challenges into opportunities for growth and leadership. Her book should be available on all platforms by the last quarter of 2026. 

Today, Aisha Jibreel Alexander continues to fly internationally while equally contributing to aviation research, safety initiatives, leadership development, and professional mentorship. Her career is built on a simple yet strong belief: every challenge presents an opportunity to learn and every generation of aviators has a duty to leave the industry safer than they found it.
